The students from private schools are very much ahead of them, if we compare we will find out that what a student of class 5 knows that much knowledge is not acquired by the student of class 8 of goverment schools.
From the graph given above we can clearly see that 85.5% of the schools are managed by goverment, futher in this aricle we are going to discuss about the 85.5% goverment going students.
The statemet given in para (iii) is also controversial, there are also students from private schools that lacks basic concepts and skills but the number are few.
The numbers of goverment school going students have increased after the pandemic. The report of hindustantimes.com states that close to four million students shifted to goverment run schools in the 2020-21 academic year, according to new ministry of eductation report, which captures hoow the pandemic affectted learning and acess to larning during a period when classes went virtual and millions of parents are believed to have lost jobs or wages.
From the report of the Hindustan Times it clearly shows that millions of students have joined the goverment schools, will they become backdated and illinformed about skills and other important infromation?
Comparatively Students from the rural schools are most affected than the students from the urban schools. The reasons for the setbacks have been discussed below -
- School lacks intiative - The authorities of the school does not pay any sort attention to the development of the students, hardly any sports and other commpetions are held. There are no proper infrastructure in the school for the sudents to learn more effectively, there are no proper labs and audio visual learning which is considered to be the most effective learning method is not available. The authorities does not keep strong check on the behaviour of the students therfore those ill behaviour makes that student a weak student. Large number of students are put in a single class for which the students are not attention equally, many students does no get the chance to question thier tachers. The teachers does not pay any attention to the students there are even cases where the teachers do not even come to class even if they come they arrive at last hours. In private schools teachers orientation is done regularly where the teachers are instructed about new teaching methods and guiedlines but such orientation lacks for the goverment schools. The ratio between the teachers and students is less ( the no. of teachers are less) yet the goverment does not recruit new teachers. The teachers selected lacks communication skills, I have observed few English teachers, they even struggle to read any sentences, it's big matter of concerns that how are these teachers selected.
- Background - The students who all are first generation learner are not guided by thier parents, on contrast the sudents whose parents are educated are able to guide thier child well from the very begining, however this is not the same for everyone. Majority of the students of the rural schools are 1st generation learners, thier parents try thier level best to guide thier children, the backdated and ill informed mind of the uneducated parents fail to guide thier children well. Unlike the students of urban school, the students of the rural school are not surrounded with educative and competitive enviroment for which they are unaware of the current situation and they are not able to go with the flow. Advance tution facilities are not available to the students of rural area like the schools of urban areas.
- No proper checks of the higher authorities - The schools are not regularly checked, even if they are checked no proper and strict decision is made further. The higher authorites like the executive, School Inspector and the other high official has the power to change and check the schools but such inspection is never done. In the case of the schools of urban areas due to the active involvement of the parents the authorites are compelled to go for regular inspection, where as in the case of the rural schools the parents are not involved in any way so there ceates no pressure on the authorities.
- Syllabus - The syllabus of CICSE and CBSE when compared to the state eductaion boards it is found that the syllabus are less which does not work in the overall development of the student.
To overcome these challenges and improve the quality of education, schools can evaluate the following factors :
- Maintained infrastructure - A school should motivate the students to come to school by providing the basic amenities required as per norms. School should make poper and attractive labs, Mid Day Meal Yojna and distrubituion of cycle and other materials have properly shown the result to bring the children to the school. However all these yojnas and schemes lures the student, they only come to get the benefits the main intention learning of is not fulfilled. Having all those amenities without thier proper utilization and maitenance may demotivate a child from going to school. well maintained infrastructure creates an enviroment to learn.
- Implementing skill learning classes - As discussed earlier that the students lack basic skills, skill development courses should be implemented for the overall development of the students. The skill learning courses are however intresting than the regular course, so it can also act as the sourse of attraction for the students.
- Quality of teachers - Teachers are the key elements in the classroom that ignite the minds of children for seeking knowledge. In the recent times there has aroused cases where in it has been found in teachers scam probe where teachers of goverment schools were appointed through illegal means, such actions should not be encouraged in by any means. SSC (School Service Commisionn) and other recruiting authorities should change thier system in such a way that only the deserving candidates is appointed. Goverment should improve teacher quality by providing training and equiping them with modern teaching aids, tools and methods, through regular teachers orientation programes.
- Extra curricular activities - Pressurizing students will deviate thier mind from studies and which may hamper thier intrest in continuinng thier eductaion further. A school should be involved in various co - curricular activities that serve as a key component in sustaining students' interest in school. It should have proper sports facilities and avenues for cultural events that help in building the life skills and personality of the students. Inter - school competition should be organized.
- Proper implementation of a government initiative - Various government initiatives such as the RTE act and RMSA were great in bringing change to the school system. According to RTE, the pupil-teacher ratio should be 30:1 at the primary level and 35:1 at the secondary level.
- Assessment and evaluation tools - Taking proper and summative assessments will provide a better understanding of the child. Individual differences should be kept in mind while preparing the evaluation tools which should also include critical/higher order thinking skills. Based on the results, we would be able to evaluate the learning level of the child and by taking the necessary steps, the quality of education can be improved.
- Community buildingPeer learning is vital at every level. - To improve the quality of education we can build a school community where all the stakeholders along with the community can come together to share their ideas, challenges, and solutions with others as cross-functional learning. Thus, it will enhance the connectivity and productivity of the school.Improving the quality of education in the school will create an enabling environment that will embed the concept of lifelong learning. The students will remain enrolled in the school and learn and become enablers and productive whereby they can participate in nation-building.
Whenver goverment schools are said what people thinks is no proper eductaion, no decipline, bad infrastructure and no better schooling system. For these rasons parents are unwilling to send thier students to goverment schools. However goverment school has a very vital role to play in educting the mass population of India, majority of the people in this country can't afford private schools. It is the primary duty of the goverment to give free eductation to its people as it is thier fundamental right. For educating the mass the goverment has to take lot more intiative , the future of the country depends on the quality of education given in the country.
